As tensions rose between the United States and Cuba, Castro nationalized important industries within Cuba. Premium cigars were among those nationalized and many Cuban tobacco-growing families lost everything and fled to the US, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Honduras to rebuild. Hand Rolled follows their decades-long struggle to reestablish themselves in uncertain Latin American economies.
