Judge Kay Woodbury (Jaclyn Smith), both recently divorced and estranged from her father, leads a lonely life. Something in her connects with Sally (Lyndsy Fonseca), a troubled teen girl brought to her courtroom. Sally has bounced through many foster homes, and, rather than send her to juvenile prison for minor crimes, Kay decides to bring the girl into her own home. Sally begins their new arrangement by lying and stealing from Kay, but over time the two learn to trust and respect each other.
